Variothermal temperature control and propane cooling in demand: technotrans draws positive Fakuma balance

• Qualified discussions and specific enquiries: joint stand proves its worth as a platform for exchange

• Strong interest in variothermal temperature control and cooling technology using the natural refrigerant propane (R290)

• Live applications demonstrate the interaction of connected thermal management solutions in injection moulding

technotrans draws a positive balance of its presence at Fakuma 2026 in Friedrichshafen. Qualified trade visitors, intensive discussions and specific enquiries characterised the trade fair. The newly developed variothermal temperature control system vario GEKKO and cooling and temperature-control systems using the natural refrigerant propane (R290) attracted particular interest. Using a live application, technotrans demonstrated the interaction of precise temperature control, demand-based pump control and connected process control in injection moulding. The joint stand concept with specialised technology partners proved its worth as a platform for professional exchange and the presentation of efficient integrated solutions.

“The quality of the discussions and the specific enquiries at Fakuma show that our solutions are meeting the current requirements of plastics processors in a targeted manner,” says Nicolai Küls, Managing Director of technotrans solutions GmbH. “Our joint appearance with our technology partners impressed trade-fair visitors: the live applications enabled us to show them directly how precise temperature control, demand-based pump control and coordinated process components interact.” Personal discussions confirmed, in particular, the interest in variothermal temperature control and the use of propane (R290) as a refrigerant.

Live application proves a visitor magnet

At the joint stand, technotrans presented itself together with Sumitomo (SHI) Demag, Contura, CycleTemp, enesty, Matsui, TST and Optogon. The centrepiece of the trade-fair presentation was a fully automated production cell with an injection moulding machine from Sumitomo (SHI) Demag. The system produced highly transparent playing-card boxes made of polycarbonate. An interactive station with polarising filters made the internal stress distribution of the manufactured components directly visible. This enabled visitors to understand the link between precise temperature control and the optical quality of the components.

Variothermal temperature control in practical use

A technological focus was the new generation of the vario GEKKO variothermal temperature control system. Developed jointly with Contura and CycleTemp, the system enables rapid temperature changes and precise temperature control in order to minimise internal stresses and optical defects in demanding plastic components. The compact system requires no additional external valve stations. An integrated, separate return-flow system directs the heat-transfer medium water back into the appropriate circuit. Large water reservoirs and an integrated energy storage system enable rapid heating and cooling times. The live application illustrated the changeover between the heating and cooling phases in the production process.

Use of natural refrigerants in demand among trade visitors

Cooling with propane (R290) also attracted great interest. Against the backdrop of the stricter F-Gas Regulation, technotrans presented corresponding solutions in two live applications: the compact, air-cooled weco 15 chiller cooled the playing-card box application. The weco 85 supplied another injection moulding machine from Sumitomo (SHI) Demag, which produced beverage closures using a 48-cavity mould. Both cooling systems use the natural refrigerant propane. It is also used in technotrans’s new weco series, with a cooling capacity of up to 10 kW. The applications illustrated the importance of propane as a refrigerant in mould and machine cooling.

The technotrans solutions attracted great interest from visitors not only at the company’s own stand. They could also be seen live in action at numerous stands of partners and customers. “The strong demand for our thermal management systems at Fakuma impressively demonstrates that we are fully meeting our customers’ needs for efficient and compact cooling solutions,” Küls emphasises.
