technotrans IPEX 2010 preview

“This will be the Efficiency Ipex. Every printer is having to look closely at costs to maintain profitability and is investing to ensure they have the right quality, cost and environmental credentials to win and keep business,” says Peter Benton, managing director of technotrans in the UK.

“Our customers have strongly influenced the look and feel of our Ipex 2010 stand. Findings from our UK pressroom survey indicated a strong interest in Health & Safety and press maintenance issues and that, coupled with the keen interest shown in our filtration, inking and alcohol reduction ancillaries has helped determine our equipment line up.

“Functionality and reliability edged ahead of speed and cost in the survey feedback on criteria used to select equipment and so at the exhibition we plan to show just how strong we are in these areas. We have sophisticated and robust products with responsive expert support at local level.

Among the offers on the technotrans stand is the opportunity to consider remote control via the internet when any printer takes out a service agreement. Service agreements enable printers to have regular preventative maintenance and repair work done to known and predictable costs. This prevents downtime but also ensures equipment runs to maximum efficiency, quality and productivity. It also ensures that operating staff are fully trained to operate the equipment, a key part of any employer’s Health & Safety requirement.

“At Ipex we meet and update with our OEMs, all the main press suppliers, but we need to talk increasingly to printers looking to enhance their presses with ancillaries that enable them to improve their production and quality control, to cut their consumables and disposal costs, to be more environmental and more productive. At Ipex printers looking at our press solutions will find they are able to find relatively low cost, smart pressroom fixes without breaking the bank.”

The products on show include:

beta.c.eco is the energy efficient version of the beta.c, a combination unit which handles dampening solution circulation and temperature control in a single cabinet housed alongside a press. In addition to significantly reducing power consumption when cooling inking rollers this unit also cuts back on the amount of water, IPA, additives and filter material required. It cuts consumables and disposal costs.

alpha.d, a dampening solution circulation system with digital temperature control. It includes options for alcohol stabilisation, automatic dampening solution dosing and the measurement of conductivity and pH levels. Its plug and play functionality means it is easy to install and upgrade.

alpha.r for reverse osmosis, ensures a consistent water pH and conductivity in the dampening solution, predictability that is an asset for all printers but a prerequisite for any businesses serious about reducing or eliminating alcohol.

basic.fc is one of a family of fine filtration systems that enable printers to eliminate ink particles paper coating, powder, paper dust and other unwanted debris from the dampening solution. It is an economical, mobile unit. To go alcohol free having stringent control over processes is critical to good results.

contex.lb is a brush-based cleaning system for single-width newspaper, semi-commercial and heatset printing applications. This plug and play device fitted onto the printing unit will accurately measure the amount of washing agent used and automatically extract washing sludge.

contex.c is a cloth-based cleaning system for blanket and impression cylinder wash ups on offset presses. The cloths are quick and easy to replace and washing agent consumption is low but without compromise to results.

An ink pumping demonstration model will highlight the advantages this technology can provide companies with more than one press. “The ROI on a bulk inking system depends on the volume of ink used but is economical from quite a small number of press units,” says Mr Benton. “It means the user can buy in bulk at competitive prices and, for those looking to reduce manning costs, it also takes one further function away from the press. The ink just keeps on flowing and intermittently the barrels are refilled or replaced.”

The 154 sq m technotrans stand welcomes visitors and in addition to the best products and best support packages, it also claims to be serving the best coffee at the show.
