Reshaping gds: Organizational realignment at management level

  • New positions for Ilka Domberg, Ludger Heisterkamp and Christian Paul
  • Increased flexibility and customer proximity
  • Cooperation across locations

Responding to customer requirements more efficiently and flexibly. gds GmbH aims to accomplish just that as a result of its current organizational realignment. Effective January 1, 2022, Ilka Domberg, as a Senior Sales Engineer/Consultant, has changed over to the Sales department, Ludger Heisterkamp is heading the Software & Solutions department and Christian Paul is the Product Manager for the editorial management system docuglobe. This way, the leading Competence Center for Technical Communication and Information Management is placed on a broader base while separating the responsibilities for Product Development from those for Product Management. Customers will benefit from closer proximity, streamlined management as a result of the overall Development management of both the Sassenberg and Berlin locations and a greater transfer of expertise.

“We have always been and continue to be committed to providing comprehensive customer support services and to respond to special requirements quickly,” says Ulrich Pelster, Managing Director of gds GmbH. The organizational realignment and current staffing decisions have been an opportunity to further increase our performance. “The previous management of Software & Solutions in conjunction with Product Management in the area of docuglobe is being undone for the benefit of forging even closer customer relations and increasing the efficiency. This generates added value for our customers, business partners, and us.”

Management is expanded with Ludger Heisterkamp as the new Head of Software & Solutions at gds. He has been working in Sassenberg as a developer for almost 20 years and he has considerable expertise under his belt. With Heisterkamp, Development management for both the Sassenberg and Berlin locations is in the hands of a single person for the first time. Here, the objective is the organizational meshing of all Development departments. For this purpose, processes and structures will be standardized to enable cross-location projects. In addition to a more flexible response to special customer requirements, this will also result in synergy effects and the improved transfer of expertise.

Optimizing information management and strengthening the Sales department
Christian Paul will be able to focus more on customer contact in the future. The seasoned docuglobe expert takes over Product Management in this area. In his new position, he is looking forward to optimize the assessment of individual customer needs to help satisfy them even quicker and more effectively in collaboration with the Development department.

The appointment of Ilka Domberg as Senior Sales Engineer will further strengthen the Sales department, especially in the XR sector, the XML-based editorial management system of gds. Both existing and new customers will benefit from her many years of experience in the area of requirements management. With her engagement at the interface between existing customers and new prospects, the XR expert is planning to further promote use of the editorial management system. gds also benefits internally from her comprehensive knowledge in the areas of CCMS and XML.

With the organizational realignment of management, gds sees itself as being well equipped for the future. “These three staffing decisions were made in favor of many years of experience, a high level of understanding for central processes and the requirements of our customers,” explained Pelster. “Being able to focus on your own special area will generate added value in all areas of our product portfolio.”
