“In an age when everything is data driven having measurable control over our fount solution is very important,” says Justin May, technical manager of Graphic Packaging International in Bristol.

It is for this reason that the creative carton production company has installed two products from technotrans,  an alpha.r reverse osmosis system which feeds standardised water into the dampening solution which is in turn kept at a consistent temperature by the alpha.d dampening solution circulator. They are fitted to the company’s Roland 806 six-colour B1 press.

“Temperature control is critical to quality and productivity but the dampening solution itself must be right,” says Mr May. “When we measured the pH and conductivity of our water we were shocked at the inconsistency. Water supplied to us came from many different sources. We needed to standardise the water to optimise our results and that is what we have done to good effect with reverse osmosis.”Being able to produce great quality at speed and without waste is important to Graphic Packaging which aims to turn the supply chain into a value chain by creating packaging that delivers results for its customers.
