Cooling lubricant conditioning systems made by technotrans AG for grinding machines

The modular system is the new standard for Diskus Werke / Increased service life and quality of grinding machines on a global scale / Sustainable filtration and cooling

Diskus Werke Schleiftechnik GmbH uses the cooling and lubricant conditioning systems of the toolsmart type made by technotrans AG for its CNC-controlled grinding machines. The machines, which are for side surface grinding, handle workpieces made of steel, aluminium, and other materials. Both companies have continuously expanded their partnership over the last few years: toolsmart is now the standard cooling lubricant conditioning system for Diskus grinding machines.

"Good filtration and temperature control of cooling lubricants is a prerequisite for achieving optimum grinding results," explains Oliver Klier, sales engineer of Diskus Werke. This is why Diskus Werke combines their machines with powerful and flexible cooling lubricant conditioning systems. This major element is supplied by technotrans AG from Sassenberg, Germany.

The machines, which are for side surface grinding, handle workpieces made of steel, aluminium, and other materials. Diskus can only fulfil the high demand in terms of precision and the service life of the machines in combination with a high-performance cooling lubricant conditioning system.

The grinding process requires up to 600 l of emulsion per minute to cool and lubricate the tool and to ensure that the grinding waste is removed. This increases the service life of the cooling lubricant and ensures consistent results in terms of the finished product. However, the emulsion is increasingly contaminated with metal chips during the process. If these contaminants are not filtered out, the abrasive chips will damage the workpieces. For this reason, filtration is a must. However, the temperature control of the cooling lubricant also plays an important role. "We know that there are still companies working without cooling lubricant conditioning systems and also without a cooling concept," says Oliver Klier. "However, this is unthinkable at Diskus."

Customised, modular system
toolsmart is a modular system that can be perfectly adapted to the grinding machine in terms of its various components, from the filtration and cooling system up to the necessary pumps and tanks. If the elements are scaled accordingly, it is also possible to connect several machines to a single toolsmart cooling lubricant conditioning system. The filtration process has multiple stages. The fully automatic filter with a filter mat as the filter medium can reach a filtration grade up to 10 µm. Depending on the process various types of filter mats can be used in order achieve the optimum filtration result.

Karsten Werneke, Business Development Manager at technotrans, underlines the easy and safe handling of the system: "Our systems are designed based on the plug-and-play principle, which means that they are immediately ready for use after they have been filled. If necessary, the cooling lubricant conditioning system can be specifically adapted to the process by way of freely adjustable parameters and the proprietary technotrans control system. technotrans ensures the functional safety and reliability of the systems by testing them in the filled state prior to the delivery.

Convinced by the performance of the toolsmart cooling lubricant conditioning systems, Diskus has equipped its grinding machines with additional systems since the beginning of the partnership. Both companies have a global sales and service network enabling them to consult or assist their customers anytime wherever they are located.
