Headleys banks time and money with eco.clean at Ipex 2010

Headley Brothers says that it came to the technotrans stand at Ipex specifically to sign for an eco.clean, determined to take advantage of the time, cost and environmental advantages this solvent recovery system will bring.

Currently an operator on the Speedmaster SM 102-10-P where the eco.clean will reside takes one or two hours to clean out and replenish the solvent level on the press and this can take place once or twice a day at the round the clock plant.

“We will save time, reduce our spend on solvent and gain a huge environmental benefit,” says Andy Owden” works manager at the Ashford printer which specialises in magazine, journals and quality commercial print.

Headley Brothers is ISO 14001 accredited and holds Chain of Custody certification and as part of its commitment to a greener environment it looks carefully at the way it operates, taking whatever steps it can to constantly reduce waste and emissions.

Roger Pitt, managing director of Headley Brothers and a visitor to the Hall 6 ancillaries equipment stand today, says: “We first saw eco.clean by chance at another printers and we thought it was a neat bit of technology but given the economic downturn we decided it wasn’t a priority but now after reviewing its clear advantages I am pleased to return to technotrans to sign the order.”

Eco.clean recovers about 90% of solvent, removing impurities and separating off the water which is then treated so that it is more than clean enough to dispose of down any normal sewage system. The solvent is able to be recycled again and again because the system is a filtration process using neither heat nor vacuum, therefore maintaining the integrity of the solvent.

The company has used its temporising equipment on both its web and sheetfed equipment for many years.
