Co-operative printer selects technotrans’ reverse osmosis system

One of the UK’s longest standing print worker co-operatives Calverts has selected the technotrans’ basic.r reverse osmosis systems because it is greener than other systems, producing much less waste water.

Dave Bedwell, machine room manager at the company which started up in 1978, says: “This unit takes out all the calcium, salts and metals from the water so that there is a uniform hardness, conductivity and pH. Every gallon going into the press is the same.”

“We have used rival equipment, but chose technotrans because it is top of the tree in ancillaries and the unit doesn’t waste water as many other systems do. Sustainability matters here. We run to ISO 14001 standards, use FSC papers and recycle everything we can.”

The basic.r unit is being used alongside the company’s Speedmaster SM 74 full colour press. Calverts produces work for a number of prestigious names including University College of London, The Royal College of Arts and this year it handled the Co-operatives Annual Report. High quality work is its niche and process control, including the dampening water, is the key to achieving consistent excellence.
