The Board of Management of technotrans AG has decided that the company will sign up to the "Global Compact" initiative of the United Nations. The purpose of the initiative is to promote social responsibility among companies by challenging them to embrace universal social and environmental principles and play an active part in their implementation. Global Compact was established on the initiative of the retiring Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
"As a group with activities worldwide, we not only want to turn globalisation to our advantage, but also want to play an active role in shaping it to ensure that it meets the legitimate expectations of future generations," explained Heinz Harling, Chairman of the Board of Management of technotrans AG. "The Global Compact creates a framework bringing together human, social and environmental aspects into a coherent overall concept that we can also willingly subscribe to out of personal conviction." The annual Management Conference of the group's management personnel provided a suitable opportunity for establishing binding guidelines that apply worldwide. Harling added: "Our corporate philosophy has always focused on sustainable development. In signing up to the Global Compact, we are creating an internal point of reference for the various pertinent initiatives running within the company."
