follow-up order for cleaning system for The Hindu, Hyderabad and Chennai, India
The Hindu, India, has awarded technotrans AG, the world’s leading offset printing system supplier, a contract to equip the Mitsubishi DIAMONDSPIRIT at their Hyderabad plant with the contex.mb blanket cleaning system and the ecoclean.line system for washing agent recycling.
The company has also placed a further order for contex.mb blanket cleaning units with technotrans AG to equip the third press at the Maraimalai Nagar (Chennai) site. This system is expected to be installed in mid 2008.
Founded in 1878 with a circulation of 80 copies, The Hindu is India's second largest English-language newspaper, selling more than one million copies a day (1,186,558 copies, ABC Jan-June 2007). The paper is printed at twelve sites and is sold throughout India. An online edition was launched in 1995. The group’s other publications are Business Line, a financial daily, Sportstar, a weekly tabloid sports magazine and Frontline, a fortnightly magazine on current affairs.
The initial contract from The Hindu in Chennai to equip the DIAMONDSPIRIT with a state-of-the-art cleaning system was awarded to the company rotoclean GmbH in 2006. rotoclean GmbH was taken over by technotrans in February this year. Supported by German technicians, the employees of The Hindu installed the equipment in early 2007. The washing agent recycling system ecoclean.line was installed at the same time.
During an on-site visit in August, technotrans representatives, Richard Munz and Christian Walczyk, met with a very satisfied customer and the final handover of the system was a mere formality. The staff of The Hindu are confident that their decision to combine the DIAMONDSPIRIT with the contex.mb and ecoclean systems and their peripheral devices was the right choice.
contex.mb offers an economical and effective solution for a fully-automatic blanket cleaning process in newspaper printing presses.
The narrow, moveable brush enables efficient cleaning without residue, and the integrated automatic extraction system for the used liquid considerably reduces operating costs and maintenance.
The contex.mb washes with warm water, which improves cleaning quality and paper dust and debris is detached from the blanket more easily. The used liquid and the removed contamination is continuously extracted during the cleaning and collected centrally. This also eliminates spraying and misting during the cleaning process.
The used liquid from the The Hindu installation is fed into the ecoclean.line washing agent recycling system, and returned to the cycle once regenerated. Not only does this help to reduce costs, since up to 80% of all washing agent is reused, it is also a highly efficient and environmentally-friendly solution.
Practical details allow the contex.mb system to be installed and upgraded without tools, and keeps calibration needs to a minimum. As a result, the staff of The Hindu is able to install the system assisted by only one technotrans employee.
The the follow-up order for the Hyderabad site was delivered in November of this year. The delivery scope included the contex.mb cleaning system and the ecoclean.line washing agent recycling system. Installation will again be performed by the client's employees. The system is scheduled to be taken in to operation at the beginning of 2008.
